2009 Holiday Folk Fair has been scheduled from November 20 to November 22.The
Milwaukee Chinese Community Center will be participating to showcase Chinese culture
and heritage at the fair. We need volunteers to help at our Food, Market, Exhibition
and Art booths. All shifts will be six hours long (10:00 am - 4:00 pm and 4:00pm -
10:00 pm). We will also appreciate help on Spring-Roll/ Dumpling making. Please

with the days/shifts in which you and/or your family are available. Thank you so

Additionally, if you would like to purchase HFF tickets for your family or friends,

$8/each. (Tickets at the fairground are $10/each.), First come first serve.
The MCCC Moon Festival party was held on October 3rd from 5-10:30pm. About 150
people attended the party. Food, celebration, community spirit were greatly
displayed. Many thanks go to our volunteers.
The first year of MMCS Chinese Special Class (“Learning through Play”) on October
4th was a success. The event was held at regular language class hours from 2-4pm in
MU. The classes talked about the history and culture behind the ancient holiday.

2009 the MMCS summer reading program update report - There were total 31 students
who turned in the Reading log sheet and 12 students wrote essays. Thanks to all
students for keeping up the good work.
Beauty & Melody (Tianzi Chinese Music Ensemble) from China's Sichuan Province
performed in Wisconsin – Invited by the MMCS Chinese music teacher Qiuzhen Xue after
their wonderful performance at Hartford in Wisconsin, the Chinese Music Ensemble
came to Milwaukee to have a Music Workshop with MCCC community and MMCS students at
Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church on October 17, 2009. It provided a great face-to-face
cultural glimpse of China, past and present, in traditional musical form.
The all-female music group played various Chinese instruments, including bamboo
flutes, windpipes, percussion, and drums. Linghong Mu, the director of the ensemble
introduced traditional folk instruments such as the Ruan, the Pipa, and the Suona to
the audience. After the performance, the music group took pictures with the MMCS
WACLT, the Wisconsin Association of Chinese Language Teachers, hosts a speech
contest every year. This year the contest will be held at UW-Madison on April 10th.
This contest is appropriate for all levels of Chinese learners. Please see the

Asian Unity Day on November 15, 2009 – It’s time to get together for an afternoon of
fun and fellowship “Asian” style with authentic food and cultural programming.
